THE LANDMARK.

VOL. XIII. STATESVILLE, N. C., THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 1887. NO. 46.

Albert Taborn, colored, was hanged in Oxford last Saturday for burglary and assault upon Mrs. Dr. Pat Booth of Knap of Reeds, Granville county. A special to the Raleigh News and Observer says he protested his innocence on the scaffold, saying that Christ had hung upon the cross and that he was no better than Christ. The criminal said that his brother, who is now in jail, was guilty of burning the town of Oxford on the 15th of March ; that others were guilty, but that he did not know them.
